Right on! That is EXACTLY the argument I had with my CO friend several years ago. Paul was a rogue...he had no direction other than the Holy Spirit. Words are twisted to give power to these self-appointed leaders!
so i'm listening to the regional manager give his mid week talk and he's going over acts 15 where they're dealing with the issues that arrose from the jewish christians wanting the gentile christians to adhear too the mosaic law, so some of the apostles gathered to hash it out.
it struck me, though, that he kept using the phrase "the governing body at that time" to describe the apostles and older men who decided on the matter.
once he even slipped up and said apostles, then corrected it to the gb.. i'm thinking that they've actually gone so far as to put it in his outline to make sure its beaten into the r/f that the gb's power is somehow based in scripture.

can you look at any of them and think, say: you taught:-- " the f&ds , the "anointed" existing since pentecost" ---you taught:.
the non-overlapping generation of 1914 ---.
the local drive to get it done before 1975*--.
Most elders do not understand nor accept the responsibility associated with the position. James states in James 3:1- "Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
The weight of that scripture moved me to leave the position after many serious questions about policy and doctine, particularly the policy on child abuse that is SOOO affecting the organization now.
looking at all the doctrinal teachings over the last five years, it's almost impossible for any person of conscience who originated such doctrine to do a complete u-turn and change it when the passage of time has proved beyond doubt that doctrine is no longer credible.. i say this with reference to the generation of 1914. they were so sure.
it was part of the awake!
masthead for decades that those who saw the events of 1914 would also see the great tribulation.. .
they are delusional, but they are spiritual, so you have to accept their delusion.
have you had the pleasure of hearing this doozy??
i believe it was presented at the circuit level first, it has filtered it's way down.. the poor eldub opens with this definition of the word fantasize:.
"to conceive fanciful or extravagant notions, ideas, suppositions, ect.
The reality is....dont pursue higher education unless WE NEED YOU. Then, GREAT!
Worldly fantasies are bad, unless you are talking about the selection of the GB, tight pants, and Spanxx as well as the idea that there will be a new world.
the length of time it has taken from the final briefing to the scheduling of oral argument may be due to a couple of factors.
in california, many of the courts are backed up due to budget cuts, layoffs and furloughs.
some courts are worse than others.
I agree with your position that time has elapsed due to the legal questions and not the state of the courts. The appelate realizes that their decision will have an impact beyond the Candace case. If the ORG was to lose, which I believe they will, then appealing to the Supreme court would be disastrous as it will have nationwide ramifications and the ORG's process will be held to an all-encompassing scrutiny that only exist at the Supreme level...I don't know if the ORG wishes to be scrutinized with a magnifying glass. The fact that EVERY state and territory would be allowed to submit in pro or favor could be disastrous as well.
We shall see.....keep your fingers crossed. Unless you are still active, then don't cross your fingers cause that's bad.

it used to bother me that people would say that about my well meaning religion.
how do you prove that witnesses are indeed, false prophets?.
"Tell me how you prove who a true prophet it."
The ORG has always used the counterfeit bill analogy. It is not necessary to prove what a counterfeit bill looks like. You simply need to be able to identify a REAL bill. So, put it on them. Tell me how you prove that you are a true prophet.
nfl commissioner roger goodell placed minnesota viking's player adrian peterson on indefinite suspension for using extreme measures in disciplining his son using a tree branch switch.. sports illustrated covered details about how the process works with the players union, the player, and the nfl.. www.si.com/nfl/2014/11/17/minnesota-vikings-adrian-peterson-suspended.
i remember vivid scenes in kingdom halls and in the homes of jws who used extreme measures to discipline their children.

Beating your kids serves no purpose. It may instill fear, that's true, but it does not engender compassion nor true virtue. It is a negative input expecting a positive result.
For many in my generation, being whipped was a customary element of our childhood. Before meetings, during meetings, after meetings, it didnt matter. If you weren't ready on time. If you talked or fell asleep during the meeting. If your brother or sister told on you on the way home. It was FUN to be a child witness!!!
My favorite childhood memory of the devout JW family is being whipped by a hot wheel track, a long orange plastic flexible piece of a toy race car setup popular in the late 60's early 70's. There is something sadistic in beating your kid with his own toys....
sometimes small children can see through stupid.. .

the article entitled seven shepherds, eight dukesawhat they mean for us today in the watchtower of the 15th november 2013 contained this important warning in paragraph 16: ain the near future, jehovahas apparently vulnerable people will come under attack from the modern-day aassyrian,a whose intent will be to wipe them out.a it goes on to say: awhat asecret weapona does micahas prophecy indicate jehovah would raise up against that implacable foeaathe assyriana?
a very unlikely oneaaseven shepherds, yes, eight dukesa!
@Ish Elon
If your belief that the GB is approved by God is based on some obscure text that must be read and reread to try to excise some form of understanding, then the God that you worship is not logical or rational. If God exists and he has chosen a group to represent him, then that group would not have to try to "interpret" scripture to identify it as such. Jesus said "by their fruits" you will recognize those that are approved by God. He NEVER said that about those that lead, simply those that follow him. Once again, the ORG and its writing committee are demonstrating how devoid they are of real depth of understanding. Like JF Rutherford, they are taking insignificant passages that obviously refer to something that an ancient society would understand and trying to make application to a modern-day scenario. "Shepherds and Dukes" have absolutely no bearing on your salvation (that is, if you believe in anything Jesus said about Christianity).
i've been a lurker for quite some time and enjoy the forum.
i've reached a point in life where i don't argue ideologies anymore so i don't have much to say.
i've been out for decades and believe i've been mostly de-cultabilized (if that's even a word).. my family is still in and i haven't had contact with them in years.
Welcome....I would agree. Keep things light. No need for controversy. I have been impressed by the fact that so many here left the ORG because of its fallacy ridden theology only to promote fallacy ridden theology on this board. Truth is, if a poster is not here to encourage, enlighten, or enliven the group, they should probably go back to the BORG.
